Carbonation-Free
Competing in endurance sports requires your body to be in above normal physical condition. Some top athletes have given up carbonated beverages because research has shown that the carbonation in these "bubbly" drinks actually replaces the much needed oxygen in the body's blood. Thus, the lack of oxygen in your body's extremities may lead to fatigue of the muscles.

You say research has shown. I haven't found much research on this, can you provide any links?
Thanks for the inquiry regarding links and carbonation. The original idea was given to me by my old coach who worked closely with Mr. Jack Daniels (not the drink). Just doing a quick search this morning, I came across this web page with some other linked concerns with carbonation... http://www.mindconnection.com/library/health/softdrinks.htm I personally met Mr. Jack Daniels while I was competing in college. If you search his name and attach the key word of running, you will find him a lot quicker. Back then I was competing a very high level and wanted to be the best I could be and the idea made sense to me about oxygen being replaced in the bodies circulatory system by carbonation. I have since been carbonation-free since aound 1996.
